First edition, hardcover, ( 5 x 7.5”, 12 x 19 cm), 52pp. Gorgeous, small format book of Matisse’s famed cut-out collage series entitled JAZZ. Colour reproductions are by E. Teriade based on the 1947 Verve magazine and includes sixteen of the original twenty included works alongside the accompanying cursive text by Matisse in French. This edition includes a German translation of Matisse’s text by Ursula Klein and an afterword by E. Teriade, also in German, outlining Matisse’s creative process regarding the collages.
This copy shows some light wear on the spine and along the edges with a minuscule stain on the front cover. An exquisite collection in a petite format, Teriade’s lithographic reproductions remain bold and compelling.
