Tolkien’s now famous 1937 novel introduces us to characters like, Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Smaug, Gollum as well as trolls, elves, and dwarves that would inhabit our 20th century collective imagination and serve as a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
This lavishly conceived collector’s edition includes Thor’s map on the front and back end papers, including several of Tolkien’s own green and black prints and five lovely watercolours; The Hill, Rivendell, Eagle, Bilbo Huts, and Smaug.
This later printing of the first edition is in near fine condition with the slipcase showing mild wear. A wonderfully designed and affordable first edition of Tolkien’s epic tale.
