Published first in 1936 and Pushkin’s only completed novel is based on the Pugachev’s Rebellion of 1773-74. This edition appears to be specially made for a British audience or English speakers desiring to learn Russian with a vocabulary section by Anna H. Semeonoff author of numerous Russian grammar books during this period. W. L. Forster was an administrative/commercial official associated with the British Embassy in Moscow in the 1940’s under the ambassadorship of Sir Richard Stafford Cripps. Forster kept documented diaries of his observations of the Soviet Union during his work there.
This copy is in very good condition, showing some wear on the edges and foxing on the pages. The dust jacket shows somewhat more aging, displaying some discoloration and various tears. A unique copy of this book marked by its history at the the British Embassy in Moscow during the Second World War.
