After some time in his young adulthood as a screen writer and newspaperman, mainly reviewing books, and hobnobbing with the likes of Evelyn Waugh, Anthony Powell (1905-2000) joined the military during the Second World War and subsequently started work on his Magnum Opus, A Dance to the Music of Time, a twelve volume novel depicting the interaction between British high society and its bohemian class between the 1920’s and the 1970’s.
The tenth volume treats the post war austerity in Britain and its effects on the literary community.
