Item #34099 WAR MONGERS. Clive Bell.

WAR MONGERS.

London: Published by the Peace Pledge Union, 1938.

1st Edition. Rare pacifist pamphlet issued shortly before the Munich Agreement. Original tan wrappers printed in black and red. 8vo, 24 pp plus “Foreword” dated September 21st, 1938.

Clive Bell—Bloomsbury critic and pacifist—offers a biting critique of the political forces steering Britain toward war. WARMONGERS reflects the urgency of its moment, published as Europe edged toward conflict. Historically significant and seldom seen.

Interior pages near fine: clean, tight, and unmarked. Wrapper Very Good+ with light staining. Notable for the Peace Pledge Union label pasted over the bottom of the title page, concealing the original publication note. Beneath the label (visible under light):

“This pamphlet appeared in an article in the Contemporary Review, and is reprinted with permission as a valuable contribution to current thought. The Peace Pledge Union does not necessarily endorse all the views expressed in it.”

An important example of interwar peace advocacy. Scarce.
