Christmas Greetings during the time of the Vietnam war. Signed letter "HOW NICE TO FEEL A FRIEND'S HAND OUTSTRETCHED TO ONE ACROSS A WORLD FULL OF ROCKETS AND VIOLENCE!"

Nobleboro, Maine: Henry Beston, 1958.

Original autographed greeting card, note on Chimney Farm letterhead and stamped envelope. Written, signed and addressed by Henry Beston to his long-time friend and photographer, Clayton Smith of Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

The greeting card features a Guinea Deer woodcut by Thomas Bewick and is signed "Henry and Betty" by Henry Beston.

-------------------------------------
HENRY BESTON was an American writer and naturalist, and is considered one of the fathers of the modern environmental movement. His now classic observations of Cape Cod are captured in his classic, The Outermost House, written after Beston spent what he called "a year of life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod", and has been called one of the motivating factors behind the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Author Rachel Carson said that Beston was the only author who ever influenced her writing. Beston married writer Elizabeth Coatsworth in 1929. [22-33017].
