First Edition. Hardcover. Fisher, M.F. K. WITH BOLD KNIFE AND FORK. With over 140 Delectable Recipes. New York: Putnam, 1969. First Book Edition. [Essays originally published in the New Yorker magazine]. 8vo., 318pp. Orange topstain. Quarter black cloth over rust paper covered boards. A fine copy in dustwrapper. "This book is about how I like to cook, most of the time, for people in my world, and it gives some of the reasons. These have made life enjoyable, so they may be of interest to other human beings". - Fisher's Intro. Fisher has written over 140 recipes that read more as literature than cookbook. The recipes are like punctuation, or perhaps seasoning: vivid examples, sometimes insightful, sometimes touching, sometimes sharply irascible, often opinionated, but always interesting: "PUMPKIN: the only reason I mention it is that I have a recipe for delicious little gnocchi, unexpected and pleasant. Otherwise and for other recipes, I would not care if I never tasted pumpkin in any form". A very nice example.
