Maurice Denis (1870–1943) was a French painter, decorative artist, and writer, best known for his role in the development of the Nabis movement, which was a group of young Post-Impressionist artists who sought to explore new forms of expression in art. Denis was one of the principal theorists of this movement.

Born in Granville, France, Denis studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he met fellow artists such as Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, and Paul Sérusier. These artists formed the core of the Nabis group, and Denis became one of its leading figures.

His etchings are valued for their contribution to the printmaking tradition and their insight into his artistic vision. They provide another dimension to his diverse body of work and offer viewers a glimpse into his exploration of different artistic mediums.
