Item #33281 THE WASTE LAND. T. S. Eliot.

Richmond: Hogarth Press, 1923.

1st Edition. Rare copy of T.S. Eliot’s iconic poem, THE WASTE LAND. Printed and published at the Hogarth Press, 1923. First U.K. Edition, printed by hand by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. Octavo 9” x 5 7/8” pp.35.
It is said that Virginia Woolf set the entire poem in type herself. It was issued in an edition of about 460 copies with blue marbled boards presumably prepared by Vanessa Bell. There is a printed title label printed in black with "single parallel lines" glued on the front of the original marbled boards.
Slight rubbing to board edges from shelf wear. Slight browning on the decal-edge pages from age but overall no tears, foxing and in very good condition. *Possibly archival reparation on the spine. Front endpapers with title unopened.Last leaf unopened (leaving list of "previous publications" and rear pastedown conjoint.
Near fine.

The Waste Land has become one of modern literature's exemplary texts.
