Richmond: Hogarth Press, 1919.
First Edition. Soft cover. First Edition. Woolf, Virginia. (Hogarth Press. Vanessa Bell). KEW GARDENS. Richmond: Hogarth Press, 1919. First Edition. 8vo. 16 pp. Hand-coloured decorated wallpaper wrappers ostensibly from the Omega Workshops in royal blue, rich deep brown and orange on a black ground. With two woodcuts by Vanessa Bell. Publisher's white printed label to the upper wrapper, publisher's cancel slip affixed to last leaf over original imprint, as issued.
A splendid, extremely good copy showing minimal use. (Second state of the Vanessa Bell woodcut on pp. 16 - without priority). Approximately 150 copies printed although Leonard Woolf in Beginning Again states, "we printed about 170 copies". A very small run of Virginia Woolf's third publication and a scarcity thus. What was intended to be a 'Hobby Press' was now a commercially viable press. In his Daily News review,
E. M. Forster wrote that "Kew Gardens was a vision unalloyed and quite un-English". Kirkpatrick and Clarke A3a. Woolmer 7.
