First Edition, first issue of Rawlings second book, beautifully inscribed by her on the front endpaper, 'For Phil May, from Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, April, 1936, here were the magic isles, fruited with men's dreams.' A near fine copy in burnt orange cloth, black titles ruled in gilt, in a bright, fresh pictorial dustwrapper with some overall use. Ex-Libris Philip May, Sr., a close friend of Rawlings and her husband Norton Baskin. May acted as Rawlings' attorney in the Cross Creek Trial. Subsequent to her death, a portion of her personal library and correspondence passed to May, Sr. and then to his son, Philip May, Jr.
