Rare letter signed by Adeline Virginia Stephen (Virginia Woolf)
WOOLF, Virginia. Autograph letter signed. England, circa 1908. One sheet written on original 29 Fitzroy Sq. W letterhead – measuring 4 by 6 inches.
Virginia moved to Fitzroy with her brother Adrian in 1907.
This important letter was written under her "maiden name" to art historian and literary critic, Clive Bell, noted for his marriage to Vanessa Bell and his life-long relationship with Virginia and Leonard Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group. Clive Bell, now Virginia Woolf's brother-in law became Woolf's valued literary confidant at this time. "Dear Clive, There is nothing much in this, but I sent it partly to show my sense of gratitude and for your services with my box and to supplicate that the novel I left behind may be set and to thank also for my entertainment at your hands, and those of my finest mistress. (Vanessa Bell)
I was very happy.
