Item Details

London: The Hogarth Press, 1929.

Vanessa Bell. First Edition. A very good copy in cinnamon cloth, showing a slight darkening & modest use, gilt titles to the spine, neat archival repair to the spine extremities, contents clean. Very neatly signed on the front free endpaper in purple fountain pen. In a handsome copy of the elusive Vanessa Bell designed dustwrapper that has been expertly restored primarily at the head & heel of the spine panel. The dustwrapper looks splendid. Signed examples of the first trade edition are rare. In the last 20 years, we are aware of only a very few copies having come to market so less than a half dozen signed trade firsts might be the number. In a custom designed TBCL cinnamon cloth slipcase with the Hogarth Press wolf's head logo embossed on the side. Woolf's major polemic against patriarchy, based loosely on two lectures she delivered, one at Newnham and the other at Girton. Kirkpatrick And Clarke A12a. Woolmer 215. Woolf observed in her diary, "I shall be attacked for a feminist". An increasingly uncommon & important Woolf title & 20th century literary highlight.
