Dupont is a powerful, somewhat brutal, study of the miseries imposed on poor middle-class girls by the French system of dowry, essentially in Les Trois Filles, Brieux had presented a brief on behalf of women's rights to motherhood in the face of Men's selfish possessiveness. An important book. 17 editions were published between 1899 & 1922 in French.
